Our TV Family Values!

In one of the Indian Hindi TV series I am following, the hero is a CEO of the year, hails from Punjabi family, has a brother and two sisters and has a second wife from Chennai (so she can be called Madarasan all the time), Brahmin (specifically), and a dentist. His sister is married to a bad man so she is rescued by the heroine despite of getting taunts from this sister, and gets praise from her mother-in-law. His brother is a flirt, makes a cooked up MMS on a girl, and gets involved with another girl from lower social status and makes her pregnant. His mother turns the whole house topsy-turvy when his daughter-in-law suggests to get them married and the so called hero is okay with it. When the mother was asked why she was opposing the wedding, she openly says that the girl is from lower class (unlike the heroine who is educated and the higher caste is implied) and she doesn't deserve to be in their house. Finally, they get rid of that pregnant girl by paying her child support. The hero's mother wails for the grandson that is lost to hero's first wife through divorce & curses his divorcee daughter-in-law for taking him with her, interestingly no word for this unborn child or for that poor girl. And this new daughter-in-law always praises her mother-in-law for her upbringing of her children with culture, morals and values. She says that is their legacy that can not be matched..

.....Hold on, there is more to this Indian sub-continent legacies and values......

In a Pakistani series.......the mother of the Hero breaks her son's love interest who is from a poor family with somewhat education, high morals and very beautiful, and then gets him engaged with a doctor, from a very wealthy family and high class society. But when she was in need, this doctor fiance doesn't measure up her expectations the way this poor and traditional family girl does. So she and her son both get into serious resentment and repent so much that the mother breaks the boy's engagement again without his knowledge or acknowledgement. And she has no qualms or regrets for doing so because that girl is too educated and not good for their family to be their daughter-in-law (and it is implied that the girl should not have sensitive emotions) !! It is expected that the girl and girl's family should not complain about it!! And this boy who himself asks her to marry him doesn't have the curtsy to tell her the truth about his first love nor he is sorry for breaking the engagement!! Values values!!
